Charles Travis Simons
October 22, 1933 - July 19, 2010
Charles Travis Simons, Sr., 76, passed away Monday, July 19, 2010 at Hospice House. Charles was born October 22, 1933 to the late James and Bessie Simons. He was retired from the United States Air Force where he served as a Golf Pro. He served at several different bases including the Harman Air Force Base in New Foundland, Canada, Grissom Air Force Base in Indiana, and Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. He was a member of the 308th at Hunter Army Airfield and Post 184 in Thunderbolt. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and was an avid fisherman and golfer, having played for many years at Bacon Park Golf Course.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Milton Simons and his sister, Christine Westall.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Florance Simmons Simons, of Savannah, three sons, Chuck T. Simons, Jr., of Pooler, Mark Simons and his wife, Phyllis, of Savannah, and Chris N. Simons and his wife, Charmen, of Snellville, GA and one daughter, Martha Sue Thigpen, and her husband, Kirk. He is also survived by one sister, Margaret Harden, of Savannah, and six grandchildren, Caleb Simons, Cara Simons, Christian Simons, Ashley Agers, Greta Thigpen, and Ingrid Thigpen, and one great-granson, Andrew Brayden Harrison.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
Funeral Service will be 1:00 P.M., Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Director, Islands Chapel.
Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Remembrances may be made to the Islands Family YMCA, 66 Johnny Mercer Blvd, Savannah, GA 31410.
The family would like to thank Dr. James Ramage, the staff at Memorial Health, and the staff of Hospice Savannah for the care given to Mr. Simons.
